The Best Of Both Worlds: Outdoor Recreation and Conservation is a website that came out of a project that took place between 2001 and 2007 that greatly improved understanding between people running events in the countryside, Natural England and land owners. The project was initiated and chaired by Doug Kennedy and got the main stakeholders to communicate constructively and reach understandings that really made a difference, removing much of the conflict and misunderstanding from the arena of outdoor sport and recreation.
Having achieved its main goals, including creating the website, the project team ceased work largely because of government cuts in 2008, when the Sport and Recreation Alliance took it over. However the website still offers well-researched information and a framework for putting on events in the countryside in a manner that also protects the environment.
